2nd September 2012

Well here we go then. Just about to leave Plymouth for the first week in my new job.

As always I am a bit nervous when taking up a new position, any position not just going into the office.

Will I undestand what's required when I start? Will people take an instant dislike to the way I work? How much will I personally have to change?

Lots of changes already in the pipeline. New tax regime. New office, with some people I already know of. New flat and dealing with a landlord again after20 odd years. Cost of living changes. Will have to watch the pennies or ore as they are over there.

Luckily I am having four days in Gatwick to get used to the idea of working again.

Had a great few days before leaving. Maison has helped with cutting grass and getting cargo rail in the landrover. Jane has given me food and todays lunch actually. Ken as usual watches my back with almost anything I try and do.

The train is a little bit busy. Lots of reserved seats. It is also very hot in the carriage I'm in. As expected, the air con doesn't seem to be working. Would be good if we could open a window though!

Just about managed to get off the train at Reading. The train was very packed. Too over crowded I think. I shouted to make sure people were actually getting off.

The train from Reading towards Gatwick was busy as well, although it did empty as we went from station to station. Quite hot in there too.

Got to Gatwick Hilton to find they're extremely busy ?? Got put in an upgraded room which while not as far from reception as the previous room, it is still some minutes walk away.

I did notice that there don't appear to be signs back to reception? It is a bit of a warren in here. The room still won't cool down enough.

The buffet restaurant down stairs had a delay of about 20 mins which I didn't quite understand apart from the busyness. Instead I stayed at the bar by reception. Supper consisted of a relatively decent chicken club sandwich with fries, but with a 20% discount still cost 10quid.

Hitting the rack relatively early. Don't want to be late for the first day eh!
