Tuesday 11th December 2012

Poor sleep again. Woke up early, then went back to sleep for a bit.

Have to find some sunlight today. Hopefully the forecast is accurate and I'll have a sun break.

I have been looking online at those S.A.D. lamps. Will order one from Amazon and bring it back with me. Cursory enquiries at work seem to suggest they won't pay for it.

My back is a little worse today. Going to slow me down getting to work I think. Maybe the walking on slippery surfaces is not doing my balance control any good, which is affecting the muscles etc. Haven't felt insecure in the last couple of days but Friday's slip could've upset something I guess.

Will have to call the electricity company to sort out who's going to provide the power. In Norway it seems they run the electricity supply something like the rail system in the UK. I have to pay a standing charge to the people who manage the supply equipment, such as meters, power lines etc. I then have to pay a separate bill for the actual energy consumed. In the UK all the standing charges are paid to the supplier and they deal with the payments for the equipment maintenance.

Managed to see a bit of sun after lunch. It was bloody cold though. Arno said he saw -15degC on the way in in the morning and it didn't feel any warmer. Thankfully there was no wind. Got some weird looks from some smokers.

Called the electric company. Gods Google Chrome is helpful, with its automatic translation feature on the fly. I now have an account. Oh joy.

The small boat stuff is going to take a while to sort out.

Also called the local car hire company to rent a berlingo for the weekend. Probably could've done everything Fri/Sat but didn't want to rush with unfamiliar roads, weather and rules etc. Luckily somebody else has agreed to help me. Well agreed is a bit strong. She also needed some stuff picking up so we're going to do it together.

I decided that a steak was required so went into town to buy one. While there I checked with the car hire company what docs I'd need. I stopped off at the post office to finally get Luke's letter sent off. Quite surprised that an international letter was only 18NOK, (approx £2.1). Even if that's second class it's a lot cheaper than I'd be paying in the UK.
